EXCLUSIVE!: Security Sales & Integration's Annual 2002 Dealer Survey Results, Scott Goldfine, Editor, Security Sales & Integration Magazine

Each year, Security Sales & Integration conducts, compiles and analyzes the results of its comprehensive Annual Dealer Survey.  Many of the findings of this study, which spans all markets and areas of the electronic security industry, are revealed in the magazine's annual Buyer's Guide and Fact Book.  But that does not reach reader's hands until the end of the year. This presentation will expose material a full two months before anyone else is privy to it. Be among the first to truly know what's going on in today's rapidly evolving electronic security industry? Come, watch and learn from this fascinating, original research.

10:15am - 10:30 am Coffee Break
10:30am - 11:30am History of Fire and Security Alarms, Ralph Sevinor, Wayne Alarm & Charlie Darsch, System Sensor

The security industry has a long history dating back to the mid-19th Century. Using the telegraph, the United States’ first electric fire alarm system became operational in 1852 in Boston. Fire alarm systems based on electricity and transmitting the signals over telegraph wires soon became the norm in both Boston and New York City. Although the first burglar alarm was invented in Boston in 1853, Edwin Holmes moved his business to New York in 1859 because "that’s where all the thieves were." No more than 20 years ago, computer processors replaced the McCulloh transmitter, and not that long ago, rechargeable power supplies replaced wet and dry cell batteries as the primary power source for alarm systems.

11:30am - 12:00pm The Future of Fire Alarm Systems – Will History Repeat Itself? Wayne Moore, P.E., Hughes Associates, Inc.

What lessons have we learned from past fire alarm systems’ installations? When did they work when we needed them? When did they fail? What has evolved as the most important consideration when designing, installing and maintaining fire alarm systems? Has any one entity emerged as impacting the future application of fire alarm systems? Are the systems installed today more reliable then those of yesteryear? This presentation will look into the past and then into the future to answer these and other important questions that must be addressed by the industry professionals of today.

Sensors And Monitoring, Through A Looking Glass To The Future, John Judd, Radionics, a Division of the Bosch Group & Craig Leiser, Kismet Group

There are billions of sensors, and millions of different applications. They are used in aircraft and bridges; they warn of earthquakes and traffic congestion. Who is monitoring them? Is the Central Station Industry missing the boat or are we really just about security?

With the continuing development of new technologies and applications, there are many new opportunities for security companies to enter and profit from this activity. There are exciting applications evolving from the ability to position an incident through GPS. There are expanding applications of biometric verification as enhanced access control in the growing awareness of both terrorism and industrial espionage. The software component has also grown very innovative in receiving, interpreting, and directing the response to the new inputs and user needs.
