The Alarm Industry Communications Committee (AICC) is a committee composed of representatives of the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA), the Security Industry Association (SIA) and major alarm companies and manufacturers. The AICC-PAC aims to involve association members in the legislative process on all issues concerning the alarm industry. This includes identifying legislators favorable to its interests or who need more information about it. Additionally, the AICC-PAC coordinates fund-raising and distribution activities to increase support of its legislative interests. What are its goals? It provides coordination in a variety of areas between the alarm industry and the FCC, other regulatory agencies, and members of Congress. The committee monitors developments at the federal level affecting the ability of the alarm industry to utilize telecommunications technology in providing protection services to the public. It retains an attorney in Washington, D.C. to represent the industry on wireline issues and to file briefs with the federal courts (as in the RBOC issue, for example) on behalf of the industry. The AICC also retains a lobbyist who works with members of Congress to attain legislation favorable to the alarm industry. What are the current projects of the AICC? AICC has a filing in the FCC to asking to extend the sunset date of AMPS services. AICC is also working with Congress to pass a federal law that will allow for licensing reciprocity for central stations so that they do not have to go through the onerous work to get a license in each state in which they operate. Other issues that affect our industry currently monitored by the AICC are Broadband Over Powerline (BPL), Telecommunications Service Priority (TSP), etc. For more information about the AICC Committee, visit http://www.csaaul.org/AICCCommittee.htm. The AICC needs to build a war chest to be able to continue to fund its activities. Also, with the establishment of the new Congress, AICC needs to maintain a visible position and be able to contribute to different Congressional PACs as needed. We need everyone’s participation in the tournament since these issues affect manufacturers, alarm companies, and central stations.
