Airline
Information
The
Air Package-Delta Airlines
CSAA has
reached an agreement with Delta Airlines which covers the period of
September 11-October 7, 2000.
Delta is
a partner with Air France, Sabena, and Swissair and has the most direct
non-stops flights into Nice, France, which is the airport serving Monte
Carlo.
The Nice
International Airport is approximately 30 minutes by taxi from the Monte
Carlo Grand Hotel and six minutes by helicopter.
If you
wish to fly into Paris for a few days before or after the meeting, Delta
or its partners can handle this as well.
These
airlines have joined forces to create “Atlantic Excellence”, a new
multi-hub alliance that offers more transatlantic destinations, routing
choices and streamlined service than any other US-based carrier to the
destinations. This partnership can handle every call regardless of your
departure city.
Depending
on a number of factors, the average savings per ticket through this
alliance will be 3-7%.
The “average”
fare for the last few years in mid-September has been $676.00 round
trip from JFK and about $100.00 more from the West Coast. We are
anticipating that average airfares for this year will be approximately
$750.00 (East Coast departure). There are no guarantees since there may be
a surcharge on the tickets due to the price of fuel.
Nice
International Airport is the second largest airport in France. However,
due to the fact that there are a number of meetings booked into Monte
Carlo at the same time, it is strongly suggested that you get your reservations and/or upgrades
early.
The Delta
Meeting Network reservation number is 1-800-241-6760 or have your
travel agent call the same number to obtain the same advantages for you. Refer
to File Number 127965A.
If
you are going on any of the Post-Convention Trips remember to book your
flight home from the final destination of the Post-Convention Trip. (For
more information about travel arrangements for the Post-Convention Trip,
please see that section).

Cost Comparison
The following is a brief
comparison of the costs to attend the CSAA 2000 Annual Meeting.
Many of you will find this
meeting considerably less expensive than, for example, last year's meeting
in Hawaii and about on par with St. Thomas. This is a generalization
though since it will vary depending on point of departure (West coast
attendees may complain, but the East coast people complain when we go to
Hawaii).
Here is a brief comparison
with the last 2 years meetings, assuming a JFK departure and a 5 night
hotel stay for two people.

Post-Convention
Tours and
Sign-up Forms
CSAA is pleased to
offer three exciting opportunities this year so that our attendees
may take advantage of the convenient location and save considerably on
airfare. We have also shortened the trips appreciably so that your time
out of the office will be limited.
(Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader-download
here) to find a description of
the three tours offered: Spain/Morocco, Italy, and a short stop in Paris
on the way back for those really who are “time challenged”.
All the tours will be
in true CSAA-style, with first class accommodations.
Please fax the registration
form to Geoff Robertson (President, American Travel
Association) @ 301-718-2459 or call him for more information 301-656-4205.
Pre-Convention
Information for
Paris Hotel
Hotel
Prince De Galle-Paris
(Pre or Post Annual Meeting)
If you are transiting
Paris before or after the meeting, CSAA is recommending the Hotel Prince
De Galle which is part of the Sheraton Luxury Group of relatively small,
“boutique” hotels.
It is a very upscale,
168-room elegant French hotel (French owned, but managed by the Sheraton
Luxury Group).
The hotel is located
very close to the Champs-Elysees, and the Arc de Triomphe at 33 Ave.
George V in Paris.
If you are planning to
stop in Paris first on the way to Monte Carlo or on the way back, you may
make reservations by calling +33-1-53-23-77-77 or fax to
+33-1-53-23-78-78.
We are anticipating a
favorable rate from the hotel, so make your reservations now and we will
let you know the applicable rate in the next mailing.
Passport
Information
Please
remember to bring a current, valid passport.
US
and Canadian citizens do not need visas. People from other countries
should check with the French Consulate in their countries to verify if
they need a visa or not.
Most
people will be arriving through France and will only have to clear French
customs.
Other
Miscellaneous Information
Attire/Dress
The general dress code for Monte Carlo and
the South of France is “chic-formal”.
When the actual program is published, each
event will be accompanied by suggested attire. However, in the interim, it
is fair to say that each CSAA event will require a jacket and tie for men
and corresponding appropriate attire for women.
Business suits are appropriate during day
events in the hotel and sport coats and ties may be substituted for the
evening.
The President’s Dinner Dance on Saturday
evening will be “Black-Tie”, which in Monaco at that time of year
means black dinner jacket. If you are not planning to bring formal evening
attire, a dark business suit will be appropriate.
The ladies will be receiving additional
information on this in a separate mailing.
In addition, each event in the program will
explain the appropriate attire for that event.
Also, for events such as touring, dining or
visiting some of the historic towns and villages in the area, it is
suggested that men have comfortable walking shoes and that women use flat
soled shoes due to the hills and cobblestone streets.
Weather
September is perhaps the best month on the
French Riviera.
Daytime highs in mid-September average
80° and with lows of 72°.
However, Monaco is on the water, so come
prepared in case it gets a bit brisk. Remember, our hotel is directly on
the water.
Additional Information
If you have any questions at this point,
please call Suzanne Gerhart, CSAA Director of Meetings and Conventions or
Steve Doyle. Again, you may access the Monaco Tourist Office and the Hotel
website directly through the CSAA website, www.csaaul.org.
Remember, plan early for this trip!!!
