Moving from a Stand-alone Computer to a Multi-user Server
(many thanks to Carl W. Burger,
Network Dynamics Inc., for these instructions)

Situation: The FAAP software is loaded onto a laptop in a standalone mode.

Task: Move it to a dedicated server for multi-user use.

Step 1. Install the program in a shared folder on the server. i.e. D:\APPS\FAAP

Step 2. Copy the FAAP folder on the standalone to the APPS folder on the server, overwriting what was installed in Step 1.

Step 3. Install the program on the workstation.

Step 4. Navigate to the FAAP folder on the server, highlight the icon for the executable and right click, either create a shortcut and move it to the desktop or use the “Send to..” to create a shortcut on the desktop.

Step 5. Double click the Shortcut to FAAP, the login screen appears, do not enter user or password at this time. Click on the Register button, then the DB button.

Step 6. The location currently is on the C: drive and needs to be changed to point to the Database on the server. You need to type it in. I used \\server name\APPS\FAAP\Database. APPS is the shared folder. Note: Sometimes you need to map a drive as an alternative if you have problems with the original method.

Step 7. Now click on the Register button and enter the jurisdiction and number exactly the same as when it was entered when the standalone computer was setup.

Step 8. Now you can enter the user name and password and it will log you into the program.
