Frequently Asked Questions
- We were attempting to install FAAP on a new workstation for the new records clerk. We need to import all our old info from the old system into the new software. We have the old FAAP data file, but the new software doesn’t want to import it, it there a way to export the old data without the old software? The PC it was originally on, was taken out of service. In addition, when I select Import from the FAAP menu and browse to the old FAAP Database. It gives me a error reading input file. Error 3420. Any ideas?
The simplest way to do this would be to copy the database files to the Faap database directory of the new computer.
You would then need to register with the same code that was used previously.
If you don’t have that code, you need to get a new one.
Open the Faap database in Microsoft Access.
If you are running a newer version than 97, it will ask you if you want to convert, but say no.
Open the Disposition table.
The first record has a date filled in on it.
Blank out the date.
Visit http://www.csaaul.org/faap.htm and look under "Basic Instructions," on how to get the new code.
- My current copy of the FAAP software is loaded onto a laptop in a standalone mode. I need to move it to a dedicated server for multi-user use. How do I do that?
Click here. (Many thanks to Carl W. Burger, Network Dynamics Inc., for these instructions).
- I have different fees for residential and commercial accounts. How can I use FAAP?
FAAP allows for multiple jurisdictions, so the solution is to create two jurisdiction-- JurCommercial and JurResidential. Each jurisdiction can now have different fee structure.
- I have entered
an incorrect false alarm. How can I delete it?
-
If
the alarm proves to be false, what does the program
do then?
You input, real and false, alarms and, in the case of the false ones,
it bills them according to your ordinance (ex: 1st is free,
2nd is $25, 3rd is $50, etc)
-
Is the program able to identify locations that hit a predetermined number of false alarms within a set time frame? What happens then?
Yes, you set your limit at which you suspend response (ex: 6th false alarm suspends response). When the 6th false alarm, and every one after, occurs a window pops up to tell you that the account has reached the suspension level.
