CSAA Members To Donate False Alarm Reduction Software To Nation’s Law Enforcement Community

06/18/99

CSAA’s False Alarm Committee has been developing false alarm reduction software for the past three years. From its inception, the purpose of this software was to provide AHJ’s with a method of tracking false alarms by customer, by alarm company, etc. with a myriad of other features such as permitting, fine collection and much more.

Over $100,000 of CSAA's dues money and another $100,000 of donated time and additional costs went into the development of this software for one reason….to enable the AHJ’s and the alarm industry to have a common method of developing information and statistics to help lower the nation’s false alarm rate.

This software has been endorsed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and will be shortly endorsed by other leading law enforcement organizations.

The original Version I came out of the "Model Cities" Program and was subsequently refined in the "Model States" Program. With the completion of Version II, the False Alarm Committee and the Board of Directors is sufficiently confident in the product to distribute the software to the police and sheriffs’ departments nationwide. This software has been most favorably received by the law enforcement community.

The False Alarm Committee and the CSAA Board of Directors have agreed on a plan to distribute this software to the nation’s AHJ’s through the CSAA member companies, since this software was developed, in part, with CSAA members' dues dollars.

It has been determined by the board that the CSAA offices must maintain a list of all those PSAP’s who receive and utilize this software for use in further updates, special mailings, etc. Also, the CSAA False Alarm Committee is looking into creating a "User Group" for those law enforcement departments utilizing the software, so that we may have the benefit of their thinking as to improvements in the future.

The software will be supported by an outside-contractor at a cost of $15.00 per half-hour to the AHJ’s. There will never be a better deal for them than free software with support that inexpensive.

Within the next few weeks, members will receive an order form for however many copies of the software they wish to order.

Distribution will be on a "first-come, first-served" basis and will take several weeks to process. Cost to members will be minimal, based on the number of copies ordered, but will be approximately between $8-12.00 each. This merely covers reproduction cost, order processing, mailing, and registration of the software.

Members will be able to distribute this software to whatever AHJ they wish; however, since there are many overlapping areas, whoever distributes it first to the PSAP will receive whatever accolades may come.

We believe that this represents a very inexpensive public service and public relations gesture from member companies to the law enforcement community in their area.

One of CSAA's major company member has indicated that they are prepared to distribute 1,000 copies of the software to law enforcement across the United States and Canada. Some of our member companies have indicated that they will be running "in-house" seminars for law enforcement to demonstrate the software and to train AHJ personnel in its use.

This is a great opportunity to help reduce false alarms, to do something very positive for the industry and to enhance your company image in the law enforcement community as well.
