Updated 04/25/01 URGENT: Affect Re-Write of Part 68 with Your VoteAs discussed in a March 13th, 2001 Signals, the Security Industry Association (SIA) DC-06, Telco Compatibility Working Group was made aware that the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) was proposing an American National Standard to replace the recently rescinded FCC’s Part 68 Rules governing the interconnection of customer equipment to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Part 68 regulated the design and connection of Customer Premises Equipment to safeguard the Telephone Companies Central Office (CO) equipment and personnel. In the Signals mentioned above, we urged you to register to vote. This is an important issue since the decision will affect what equipment and services will be allowed on a phone line, including LEGACY equipment and how additional and new Telco services will be configured when they enter the premises. Essentially TIA SP-3-0005, could dictate the parameters by which you will be allowed to interface with the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) as well as what equipment will be allowed to interface. The time has come to place your vote. The cut off date for voting on the SP-3-0005 replacement for the rescinded Part 68 Rules is May 2, 2001. It is extremely important that all who have registered follow through and vote. For more information on this issue, visit http://64.77.18.68/page.asp?c=stds_dc_06_nttaa_update. We will also post this link in the “Hot News” section at www.csaaintl.org for your convenience. You received voting information through e-mail when you registered to vote. The e-mail message included a link to the website where you can place your vote, as well as a password. For more information, contact Mark A. Visbal, Manager of Technical Standards Program, Security Industry Association, 703-683-0493.
