TABLE OF CONTENTS: Moody Receives Stanley C. Lott Award
His industry friends, Charlie Darsch (System Sensor), Bob Bonifas (Alarm Detection Systems), Bart Didden (U.S.A. Central Station Alarm Corp.), and Cecil Hogan (NBFAA), received the award on his behalf from the hands of CSAA President Mel Mahler and CSAA Executive Vice President Steve Doyle at the 2002 Annual Meeting's President's Dinner Dance in Cancun, Mexico. "Bill Moody would have been among us at the award ceremony if it wasn't for the fact that his wife was very ill in the hospital. Bill Moody, and last year's Stanley C. Lott award winner Stan Martin, are the ones leading the charge to reduce false dispatches," said CSAA President Mel Mahler. The reduction of false dispatches has been identified by Mahler as the number one priority for CSAA during his presidency. Bill Moody has made a major impact on the security industry during his 25-year career in the industry . Among his many notable contributions is his work in industry standards and in false alarm reduction. For example, Moody was one of the leading forces in the creation of the Security Industry Standards Committee (SISC), a supra-committee of several industry associations, among them CSAA, the Security Industry Association (SIA) and the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA). He has served as the primary liaison between the AIREF Coalition and the individual industry associations (CSAA, NBFAA, and SIA). He has also served two terms as Director of SIA and has served as Chairman of its False Alarm Reduction Committee and its Standards Committee. Prior to his 20-year tenure at ADT, Bill served as Vice President and General Manager at Wells Fargo. Pam Petrow (Vector Security), Shane Clary (Bay Alarm) and Art Black (Carmel Fire Protection Assoc.) were also recognized with President's Awards during this event. Petrow's superb leadership work as Chair of the CSAA On-line Training Subcommittee was identified as a major reason for the success of the development effort. Clary and Black were recognized for their many contributions to the industry in the fire code area and their indefatigable work on behalf of the industry with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Several CSAA members were elected/reelected to CSAA’s Board of Directors on Monday: John Murphy (Vector Security) will assume the position of Second Vice President and Peter Lowitt (Lowitt Alarms and Security) joins the Executive Committee as Treasurer. James McMullen (C.O.P.S.), Robert R. Bean (Alert Holdings Group, Inc), Ben Cornett (Ademco Security Group), and Graham Westphal (Bay Alarm) were reappointed to the CSAA Board. 2002 Annual Meeting Acclaimed as "Best Annual Meeting Ever" Over 250 CSAA members and guests participated in what many have described as "the best CSAA Annual Meeting ever." The meeting, which took place in Cancun from October 25-October 30, was characterized by dynamic speakers, a spectacular location and terrific social events. The topics presented covered financial, legal, management, and technology issues. A very well-received presentation was that of our returning keynote speaker, Mac Anderson who again wooed the attendees with down-to-earth advice on "How to Recharge the Human Battery." CSAA was also honored to host the leadership of the major AHJ organizations, as well as the Presidents of NFPA, UL, Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA), and other organizations. Also, this year CSAA was happy to count among the attendees the Executive Director, President, and Past President of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA), as well as the Executive Director and Past President of SIA and of the President of the Door and Hardware Institute. New this year, CSAA also facilitated exciting afternoons activities, such as snorkeling tours of the second largest coral reef in the world. These tours, as well as the golf and tennis tournament and other social events, provided a framework for low-stress networking. The meeting ended on the evening of October 30, with the President's Dinner Dance and the awarding of the Stanley C. Lott Award, as well as three President's Awards (see article above). For a great overview of the meeting, please visit Security Sales & Integration's Editor Scott Goldfine article at http://www.securitysales.com/t_sc.cfm. CSAA was honored to have Goldfine give a preview of the magazine's "Annual Dealer Survey" results at the meeting. IACP Resolution Distributed Around the US As we mentioned in the last CSAA Signals, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) passed a resolution calling for central stations to implement multiple call verification. Click here to see the resolution. This resolution is being widely distributed through the industry and the various states. "This is a major initiative for the alarm industry and the law enforcement community and should have a considerable impact in the false alarm reduction effort," said Steve Doyle, CSAA's Executive Vice President. |
