As we mentioned in a previous CSAA e-Gram, the Los Angeles City Council asserted jurisdiction over the Los Angeles Police Commission's adoption of the verified response policy (non-response to alarm activations without eyewitness or visual verification) on January 14. The City Council must either veto or sustain the non-response policy on or before February 4. It needs to have 10 of the 14 council votes to overturn the policy.
This issue was jointly referred to the Education & Neighborhoods Committee, and the Public Safety Committee. The Committees will hold a joint hearing on this issue on Monday, January 27 at 10 a.m. at City Hall.
If you have accounts in Los Angeles, we urge you to attend this meeting or send a representative. In addition, the Council needs to hear from the community, alarm owners and non-alarm owners, business organizations, homeowners associations, and all parties concerned.
If you do not have any accounts there, feel free to share this e-mail with any of your peers in the LA area.
If you or anyone in your organization would like to speak in front of the Council or if you have any hard data on the importance of response or success stories of captures and arrests, please contact Council member Janice Hahn. Her e-mail is hahn@council.lacity.org. Her phone is 213-485-3347.
If anyone wants to be added to the Greater Los Angeles Security Alarm Association (GLASAA) LAPD update list, please email your request to Jerry Lenander at jlenander@netvip.com.
