URGENT: Please Join NFPA
Potential Certification Vote on the Horizon

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is gearing up for another NFPA 72-388 certification issue, labeled NFPA 381.

More information will be forthcoming after the NFPA meeting in December; however, at this time, NFPA 381 does the following two things:

  • It separates out remote station systems monitored by a public entity ("true" remote) and remote station systems monitored by privately owned supervising stations.

  • It requires that remote station systems monitored by privately-owned supervising stations be certificated under the category of remote station systems.  No runner service, not even a listed central station is required.  All that would be required would be conformance to the requirements of 72 for remote station.

It is imperative that as many CSAA members as possible become members of NFPA, in case we need to support the NFPA Committee on the floor at the Wednesday, May 22, 2002 meeting in Minneapolis, MN (part of the 2002 NFPA World Safety Conference).

REMEMBER: The last time this issue came up, we lost by 17 votes! We need our members to join NFPA and attend the meeting in Minneapolis.

To become a member, click on the following Web address http://www.nfpa.org/Home/JoinNFPA/index.asp. You can also call NFPA´s Customer Service division at 1 (800) 344-3555 or 1 (617) 770-3000 or download their Membership Enrollment Form (PDF*) and mail or fax it to NFPA. Membership is $115/year.

You MUST become a member by Friday, November 16, 2001, in order to be able to vote at the May 22, 2002 NFPA Meeting.

If possible, please reply to this e-mail and let us know if you are either an NFPA member or whether you will join NFPA.
