New CSAA Standards Subcommittee Set to to Develop Video
Monitoring Standards Vienna, Va., March 4, 2004--While video monitoring is becoming more popular, there are currently no standards in place. A new CSAA subcommittee on video verification monitoring will meet at this year’s ISC Show in Las Vegas to develop those standards. The groundbreaking meeting promises to draw industry leaders from manufacturing, central station and automation sectors. The new committee is a follow-up to last year’s meeting of the Electronic Verification Committee, a sub-committee of CSAA's Public Sector Liaison Committee. Lou Fiore; president of L.T. Fiore and chairman of the CSAA Standards Committee, Jim McMullen; president of COPS Monitoring and Richard Hahn; president of Richard Hahn & Associates spearheaded the efforts to create the new committee. The primary focus of this new committee will be on video verification. The committee will try to arrive at a consensus and develop new standards for video monitoring, including the quality of the video, dispatch response methods and procedures, central station configuration, video lighting issues, coverage and pre and post alarm information. The final outcome will be the development of a standard to be given to the CSAA Standards Committee. The next step would then be submission to the ANSI process. It is the committee’s goal to have UL incorporate this standard into UL 827. "Because of its ability to provide immediate verifiable alarm condition status, which in itself goes a long way to solving our industry’s false alarm crisis, video monitoring is quickly gaining wide acceptance in all facets of the security industry. This is the perfect time to proactively develop these needed standards,” stated McMullen, who will chair the committee. The initial meeting of the Video Verification committee will be during the ISC West Conference on Thursday, April 1, 2004, 10 AM to noon, Room 507 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. CSAA Central Station Operator's Training Level One Accepted by the Tennessee Alarm Systems Contractors Board At their meeting on February 12, 2004, the Tennessee Alarm Systems Contractors Board approved the Central Station Alarm Association online course, Central Station Operator Level One, for eight (8) hours of continuing education. The Tennessee course number for the CSAA Central Station Operator Level One is: 0402.03 Many thanks to William (Bill) H. Wilson, Jr. and his company, Atlas Security Service, Inc., who worked together with Beth Smith Bell, Administrative Assistant, Tennessee Alarm Systems Contractors Board to get the course approved. "Once again, one member's effort has contributed to the benefit of many others in the industry," said Steve Doyle, Executive Vice President of CSAA. "Bill truly made the approval of the training his mission," added Doyle. Would you like to help CSAA get the Central Station Operator's Training Level One training accepted by your state? With so much activity in the span of six days, there usually isn't much of a chance for attendees to unwind and enjoy the time away from the office. But this year, NBFAA has changed that a little. We've added a day specifically set aside for "playtime," filled with entertainment, fun, networking opportunities, and some friendly competition. Join us for the inaugural AIREF/NBFAA Golf Tournament & Evening Event, which allows you to play all day and all night during the spring conference. On Tuesday morning, March 30, buses will shuttle golfers to Troons' - Revere Golf Club, one of Las Vegas' premier country clubs. You'll spend a day duffing on the Lexington Course, enjoying lunch, beverages, and the company of your industry peers and colleagues. There will be a practice driving range and putting green to get you warmed up, and lunch will be provided for all participants. Prizes will be awarded in several contests (closest to the pin, farthest drive, etc.), as well as to the top foursomes in the tournament. Following your day of "playing around" (or "playing a round," whichever you prefer) we'll shuttle you back to the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino, giving you time to prepare for the evening event. Spend a relaxing night poolside at Kahunaville, offering a taste of the islands. Enjoy open bar and hors d'oeuvres as we present the prestigious Morris F. Weinstock and Sara E. Jackson awards. "All work and no play" doesn't sound very good to us! Set a "play date" for yourself on Tuesday, March 30, at the AIREF/NBFAA Golf Tournament & Evening Event. Visit
