At the June 8-10 National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) World Conference & Exposition in Las Vegas, Nevada, NFPA members will vote on NFPA 730, "Guide for Premises Security" and NFPA 731, "The Standard for the Installation of Electronic Premises Security Systems."
These documents were developed by the NFPA Premises Security Committee, of which CSAA is a member. The Committee has the primary responsibility for documents on the overall security program for the protection of premises, people, property, and information specific to a particular occupancy. The Committee also has the responsibility for the installation of premises security systems, NFPA 731. This standard covers the application, location, installation, performance, testing, and maintenance of physical security systems and their components. As a departure from NFPA regular standard activity, these documents, NFPA 730 and 731, do not involve Life Safety.
It is difficult to produce a comprehensive standard, such as the proposed NFPA 731, that is acceptable to all from a "blank sheet of paper." While members of CSAA have some issues with the proposed NFPA 731 Standard, CSAA applauds the effort and, is optimistic that its representatives will do their best to correct the issues raised in a timely manner.
