Carbon Monoxide Discussion

The installation of carbon monoxide detectors is being compared to the upsurge of installing smoke detectors when they first came on the market.

As the CO market is in its infancy, many questions and issues arise. Some of these questions pertain to proper installation of the detectors, adequate testing of the units, response by the central station and local emergency resources in the event of an alarm. These questions have reputable companies asking themselves, “Do we really want to be in the carbon monoxide detection business?

For this reason, CSAA and System Sensor will host a Carbon Monoxide Focus Group Discussion (NTS 07-1970 .1 CEUs) on Friday, May 18, 2007, 4:45pm – 5:45pm during the 2007 CSAA Electronic Security Forum & Exposition.

The session will work on the following issues:

  • Identifying common issues from the perspective of the installation companies
  • Communicating the progress being made through NFPA 720
  • Addressing the concerns of responding to and communication of CO alarm signals
  • Understanding the direction of product enhancements from the perspective of the manufacturer
  • Evaluating the position of the emergency response teams with regards to a dispatch from the central station

John A. Murphy, president of CSAA and of Vector Security, will moderate the panel. Other panel participants include John Lombardi, President, Commercial Instruments and Alarm Systems, Inc.; Richard Roberts, Product Manager, System Sensor; Teresa Brewer, Business Development Manager, System Sensor; Lou Fiore, President, L. T. Fiore; and Isaac Papier, Industry Relations, System Sensor. In addition, there will be representative from APCO and the Fire Authorities.

In addition, System Sensor will share the results of the survey conducted in March (see CSAA Signals, Vol. 13, No. 7), as well as the latest legislative map of the U.S. with details on what is required with regards to CO detection in each state.

If you have any questions, please contact Teresa L. Brewer, Business Development Manager at System Sensor,
