2008 ESX -- A Great Success

More than 1,500 industry leaders attended the 2008 Electronic Security Expo (ESX) in Nashville, Tenn. With packed training sessions--many standing room-only--and special events, the inaugural ESX was a rousing success, validating CSAA's decision to roll its CSAA Electronic Security Forum and Exposition into ESX and to collaborate with NBFAA on this meeting.

“CSAA was delighted to see the packed rooms, the busy Exhibitors and the many networking groups at ESX,” said Bud Wulforst, president of CSAA. “Many members visited the CSAA booth to tell us what a great meeting it was. It was great to see CSAA and NBFAA members learning and celebrating together. We are definitely looking to a bigger success next year and would like to invite everyone to join us in Baltimore on June 21-25, 2009 for the 2009 ESX.”

ESX offered seven educational tracks, as well as product-oriented training offered by exhibitors and other workshops. One of the highlights was the tour of the central station of CSAA-member ADS Security in Nashville, Tenn. Another was ESPN commentator Cris Carter's keynote address. He co-owns a successful security integration business with his brother. His address focused on how his sports experience has translated to his work with Carter Brothers LLC.

On the social front, CSAA announced and fêted the winners of the 2008 CSAA Central Station Excellence Awards during the Awards Breakfast on June 25, 2008, ably emceed by Laura Stepanek, Editor/Associate Publisher of SDM Magazine. Since the Awards winners were not announced until the ceremony, there was a lot the tension and excitement in the air (see article above).

NBFAA celebrated its 60th anniversary at the ESX Big Bash. The Rising Star and Next Generation Luncheons, the NBFAA Weinstock and Jackson Memorial Awards, SDM Awards Gala, new member receptions for CSAA and NBFAA, a skeet shoot and a crawl of Nashville’s legendary music clubs, both sponsored by The Tennessee Burglar & Fire Alarm Association, all contributed to an atmosphere of fun and relaxation.

CSAA member Kristi Harris of ESC Central said, “The best aspect of the ESX show was the endless networking opportunities that allowed for beginning new relationships or building on existing ones. Participating in ESX is all about supporting our industry, but the high quality of the attendees was an added bonus!”

Another indication of success is that 72% of the 2008 ESX Exhibition floor re-booked for the 2009 meeting, with 15% of the renewing companies upgrading their booth size.

Congratulations to Aaron Wheeler, Shift Supervisor at Wal-Mart for winning the “Visit the CSAA Booth” raffle, A Nintendo Wii system! Five new members joined CSAA as a result of the show, three on site: Digicom, Inc., iVerify, Gillmore Security Systems, Inc., Complete Protection, and The Private Bank.

Many thanks to our partners, our track leaders, attendees, and our members for making the 2008 ESX such a success!
