In Memoriam: Henry John Poile

John Poile

H. John Poile

The Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) is sadden to inform you that one of our past presidents, (Henry) John Poile, of Oak Brook, IL, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, IL, of complications due to pneumonia.

John, as he was known, worked in the security business throughout his professional life.  After serving in World War II, he returned home to work in the family’s security business.  In 1959, upon his father’s death, he became owner and president of the business, eventually renaming it Kedzie Kane Alarm.  He owned the company from 1959 to 1972, when he sold it to Honeywell.  He continued as their branch manager in Elk Grove Village, IL until retiring in 1992, after which he provided part-time consultation work until 1995.

One of the founders of CSAA (then CSEPA), Frank Guibert, wrote the following many years ago about John Poile,

"Meet John Poile, a man so critical to the CSEPA and the industry that he was asked to remain as president for two terms; whose very detailed notes of the industry's dealings with AT&T in the 1970s, helped central stations get a large settlement in their lawsuit against AT&T in the 1980." (CSAA History, page 64).

The visitation wake will be Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Gibbons-Elliston Funeral Home, 60 South Grant Street, Hinsdale, IL; (630) 323-0275; from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The funeral will be at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 64 Norfolk Avenue, Clarendon Hills, IL (630) 654-3365 at 10:00 a.m.  There will be an abbreviated visitation at 9:15 a.m. at the church just prior to the Funeral Mass.  An interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 1332 N. Halsted St., Suite 201, Chicago, IL 60642-2642.  If anyone has any questions, you may contact his son, David Poile, at (847) 810-9488 or dpoile@prodigy.net.

Letters and notes of condolences may be sent to David Poile, 817 Seward Street #B2, Evanston, IL  60202; dpoile@prodigy.net; (847) 810-9488.
