LAPD to Postpone Non-Response Decision

On October 31, 2003, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) agreed to postpone the implementation of its controversial alarm non-reponse policy. Under the policy, which was supposed to go in effect on November 1, police would have stopped automatically responding to unverified burglar alarms at locations with more than two false calls in the previous year. City Council members said the department has not adequately studied the policy's impact, clarified new procedures and notified the public.

Councilman Jack Weiss, Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski and Council President Alex Padilla, all who have opposed responding to unverified alarms, have introduced a motion to have the council take jurisdiction over the policy from the Police Commission. The council will meet tomorrow to take up the motion and hear council members' concerns.

CSAA Unveils New Association Logo

The Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) unveiled a new logo (see above) during its recent Annual Meeting in Lana'i, Hawaii. A companion logo with "MEMBER" clearly stated above the CSAA logo was also developed. CSAA will start distributing the new logos to its members in the coming weeks.

"The new CSAA logo was designed to reflect the changes within CSAA and clearly spell out our name which has become recognizable in recent years from Capitol Hill to the national and local AHJs, " said CSAA Executive Vice President Steve P. Doyle.

"The previous logo did not include the name of the association and was often difficult to reproduce on letterhead, business cards and vehicles due to its complex nature. We are starting off 2004 with new programs for our membership, a new web site and now a new look," added Doyle.

The logo redesign project was spearheaded by Stan Oppenheim, President of DGA Security Systems, Inc.
